# A timer that follows you to other tabs

2026-09-13, new. Pop the running timer out into a small window that stays on top, with the countdown, your focus area and who is focusing with you.

Focus rarely happens on the Roomie tab. You press the timer, then go write, read or code somewhere else, and the countdown disappears behind whatever you opened. Now it can come with you: while a session runs, tap the pop-out button on the timer card, or the same control in the full-screen timer, and the countdown moves into a small window that floats above every tab and every app until the session ends.

The window keeps to what matters. The digits, big and steady, on a blurred version of your focus area's cover. The area's emoji and name in a chip up top. The people focusing right now along the bottom, as a row of avatars with a count for the rest. Hover, and a single pause button appears in the corner; while paused, a small badge says so, and the button turns into resume. Resize the window and everything scales with it.

It runs on the browser's Document Picture-in-Picture feature, so it works in Chrome, Edge and recent Firefox on desktop. Elsewhere, the tab title keeps counting down as before.

Along the way, the timer became better at agreeing with the server. If a pause or resume ever lands on a session that has already changed underneath it, the app re-syncs instead of leaving a button that does nothing, and a paused session no longer shows up as running in the sidebar and tab title.
