Roomie Cafe for gym buddies

Know when your gym buddy is training

Roomie Cafe is a free timer you share with friends. Start a session when you walk into the gym, your friends see that you are training, and you write what you did when it ends.

  • No webcam
  • Nothing to book
  • Free, no session limit

How it works

  1. Start the session at the gym

Pick a focus area like Gym or Running and a length up to 90 minutes. On iPhone the timer sits on your Lock Screen while you train.

  2. Your buddy sees you are in

Friends see that you are training and on what, like leg day. Seeing them already at it is a good push to get going yourself.

  3. Log the workout in one line

Squats 5 by 5 at 80 kg, or a 5 km run. Friends can cheer you on.

Accountability without the group chat

Gym buddies keep each other going because each one knows the other might turn up. Most of that runs through a group chat, where somebody posts a photo from the squat rack and somebody else feels guilty on the sofa.

On Roomie Cafe the check in happens on its own: when your buddy starts a session, you see it. Invite your training partners into a shared focus area, set a weekly goal in hours together and watch the total climb.

What Roomie Cafe leaves to your workout app

Roomie Cafe is a timer with friends. It does not count sets, reps or weights, and it does not match you with strangers to train with. Keep your programme in the workout app you already use and put the headline numbers in the line you write after each session.

There is no leaderboard either. A rest day is an empty square on your calendar, and nobody gets told about it.

What gym buddies get

  • The timer on your Lock Screen

On iPhone, Live Activities keep the session in view between sets.

  • Training days on a calendar

Every session fills a square on your heat calendar, next to your total training time.

  • A weekly goal in hours

Set a target for the week and watch the bar fill as you train.

  • A shared area with your buddy

Train toward one total and one weekly goal with the people you train with, and see each other in a session live.

  • One focus area per sport

Gym, running, climbing or yoga, each with its own total time.

  • Private when you want

Make your account private, and people have to ask before they can follow you.

Free on the web and on iOS

Everything you need is free, with no limit on sessions, on the web and on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android is coming. Supporter is an optional subscription for people who want to fund what gets built next.

Questions from gym buddies

Is there a free gym buddy app?

Roomie Cafe is free with no limit on sessions. Follow your gym buddy, see when they start training and cheer each other on afterwards.

How do I find a gym partner?

Ask a friend, a coworker or someone you already see at your gym. Roomie Cafe does not match strangers, so it works best with people you know.

Is there a workout accountability app with friends?

On Roomie Cafe you and your friends see each other's sessions as they happen, and a shared focus area adds your training time to one total with a weekly goal.

Can Roomie Cafe track my sets and reps?

No. It times your session and keeps the one line you write after it. Keep detailed logs in a workout app.

How long can a session be?

Up to 90 minutes, which covers most gym sessions. Start a second session if you train longer.

Does it work for running or climbing?

Yes. Make a focus area for each sport, and each one keeps its own total time and calendar.
