What's new in Roomie
What we shipped, what we fixed, what we broke and then fixed again.
Ask me a question
Supporters can ask for a reflection question when a session ends. Each one is written for the session you just finished, your answers travel with the post, and readers tap to reveal them.
Private accounts
Turn on a private account and people have to ask before they can follow you. Your sessions stay out of Explore, and strangers see only your name, your follower counts and your focus time.
Tidier focus area settings, and a People page
Focus area settings are grouped into clear cards, everyone in a shared area now has a page of their own, and the invite dialog starts with the link.
Focus areas you can share
Invite people into a focus area and work on it together. You share one running total, see each other focusing live, can set a team goal, and keep your own hours the whole way, even if you leave.
Slide to set your session length, and a tidier Home
The 10, 25 and 60 buttons under the timer are now a ruler you slide to any length from 5 to 90 minutes, weekly goals sit right under the timer on phones, and the Home sidebar folds into two neat cards.
A timer that follows you to other tabs
Pop the running timer out into a small always-on-top window, with the countdown, your focus area and who is focusing with you, and keep it in view while you work anywhere else.
Books, and a library to keep them in
Keep the books you are reading in Roomie, log pages as you go, tie them to a focus area, and let a session record how far it got you.
Focus areas get an icon and a cleaner page
Give every focus area an emoji, edit it and the cover right where they show, and find everything else in a settings page laid out like the area itself.
Supporter status syncs across devices, and the feed stays current
A subscription bought on the web now shows on iOS and the other way round, the feed picks up renamed and re-iconed focus areas without a reload, and grouped posts no longer hide books and commits.
Share a focus area outside Roomie
Every focus area can now have a public page and a live badge for your README, and commits you push while focusing can ride along on the session you share.
A proper welcome
New accounts now get a short guided setup — name a focus area, set a weekly goal, follow a few people, and run a one-minute first session.
Unfollow without leaving the list
Your followers and following lists now carry a follow button on every row, so you can tidy up who you follow without opening a single profile.
Focusing now, split between Home and Explore
Home's live row is now just the people you follow, and everyone else focusing right now has moved to Explore.
Become a Roomie Supporter
Support Roomie's development and get a gold star next to your name — now available right here on the web.
Go full screen with your timer
Tap the timer to blow it up into a calm, distraction-free full screen — on desktop it takes over the whole window, just like a video.
Hold the +1 to add time fast
Tap "+1 min" like before, or press and hold to ramp up the minutes and add a longer stretch in one go — up to an hour.
Explore people, follow from your feed
Home is now just the people you follow, Explore holds search and public posts, and you can follow anyone straight from a session card.
Cleaner profile links
Your profile now lives at a memorable roomie.cafe/u/your-username link that anyone can open.
Watch your weekly goal fill up
After every session you log, a quick celebration animates your weekly goal ring from where it was to where it is now.
Try Roomie without an account
Start focusing in seconds as a guest. Your sessions show up in your feed, and carry over the moment you sign up.
A few minor improvements
App Store badge actually opens the App Store, login dialog shows the right copy, and a handful of guest-mode papercuts are gone.
Find people on Roomie
Search by username or name to find someone — then follow them, peek at their streak, and see their sessions.
One card for many sessions
Long focus streaks used to flood the feed. Now they collapse into one card.
Streaks and totals on your profile
Your profile now shows your current streak and lifetime focus totals up top.
Sign in with Apple
One more way to log in. Hide your email if you want.
Hashtags and @mentions in sessions
Tag what you're working on. Tag who you're working with.
Weekly goals, one per focus area
Pick a target for the week. Watch the ring fill up. Try again on Monday.
A Following tab on the home page
Switch the home feed between everyone and just the people you follow.
Every session has a public link now
Share a focus session with anyone. No Roomie account needed on their end.
Configure your breaks
Set break length, decide whether to auto-start the next session.
Shareable session cards
Sessions you share now come with a generated preview image.
Browser notifications when your timer finishes
Even if you tabbed away. Especially if you tabbed away.
Invite your friends
Each user has a personal invite link. Track who you brought in.
Merge two focus areas into one
For when "Reading" and "Read" turned out to be the same thing.
Toasts when something happens, dot when you missed it
New notifications fly in as a toast. Unread ones pulse on the bell.
Edit a focus area, give it a cover photo
Rename, recolor, and put an actual photo on each focus area.
Pause and resume mid-session
Life happens. Roomie waits.
Three nice things for the timer
More presets, a +1 minute button, and a floating timer that follows you.
The feed is live now
New sessions, likes, and comments appear without a refresh.
A page for each focus area
All sessions, all stats, all trends in one place.
A notifications page
Likes, follows, comments, mentions, all in one inbox.
A heatmap on your profile
GitHub-style activity grid, but for focus sessions.
New navigation, glassier look
We redesigned the nav and softened the whole app.
Reflect on every session
How did that go? Pick a mood. Add a note. Move on.
