Roomie Cafe for readers
Your reading time, shared with friends
Roomie Cafe is a free focus timer you share with friends. Start a reading session, see who else is reading right now and log the page you reached when the timer ends.
- No webcam
- Nothing to book
- Free, no session limit
How it works
Pick the book
Search for it by title or author, add it to your library and start a session from 5 to 90 minutes.
Read next to your friends
See who is reading right now and what. There is no call and no chat, only quiet company.
Log your pages
Note the page you reached when the timer ends. The session shows how many pages you read and how far into the book you are.
A silent book club any evening
Silent book clubs meet to read quietly together for an hour and talk afterwards if they want to. The reading is the point, and the company keeps the phone in the bag.
Roomie Cafe gives you that hour whenever it suits you. Invite your book club into a shared focus area: everyone's reading time adds up to one total, you can set a goal for the week together, and you can see which book each member is on.
Three shelves, kept for you
Your library has three shelves: want to read, reading and finished. The books you are reading now show on your profile, and each book you finish moves to the finished shelf.
If a book has no page count, track it by percent instead. Either way, each session adds to the record of how far you got.
What readers get
Find any book
Search the catalog by title or author and add the book with its cover and page count.
Pages per session
Each finished session can carry a line like how many pages you read and how far into the book you are.
See what friends are reading
Profiles show the books someone is reading now, and shared focus areas show what each member has on the go.
Reading days on a calendar
Every session fills a square on your heat calendar, next to your total reading time.
A weekly reading goal
Set a target for the week, for all your reading or for one book club, and watch the bar fill.
Focus Shield on iPhone
Block the apps that pull you out of the book while a session runs, and silence their notifications.
Free on the web and on iOS
Everything you need is free, with no limit on sessions, on the web and on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Android is coming. Supporter is an optional subscription for people who want to fund what gets built next.
Questions from readers
Is there a reading tracker app I can use with friends?
Roomie Cafe is free and lets you follow friends, see when they are reading and what, and log your own pages after each session. Your library and reading history stay on your profile.
What is a reading sprint?
A reading sprint is a set block of time, often 20 to 45 minutes, where you only read. Many readers do them alongside others to make starting easier.
Is there a silent book club online?
Roomie Cafe works like one you can join any evening. Start a session and you see who else is reading right now, with no call to dial into.
How do I find a reading accountability partner?
Ask a friend who reads, or someone from your book club, and follow each other on Roomie Cafe. You see when the other person is reading and what they have finished.
Does Roomie Cafe track pages or time?
Both. Each session records how long you read, and you can log the page you reached. Books without a page count can be tracked by percent.
Is the reading library free?
Yes. The library, the timer and the reading log are all free with no limit on sessions. An optional Supporter plan funds what gets built next.
